Hey folks. This is Brett this time (or it's still Shay, just not as funny). I wanted to share our experience with our little chemo class.
First and foremost, I think Shay is an amazing, fantastic, wonderful lady. Her attitude through this has been great. Lucky for me, instead of getting upset when, ah...the words don't quite come out right, she is able to laugh and see the humor. SHAY, YOU ARE AWESOME!
Now, if cancer was funny or not so serious, this would be the funny/not-so-serious side.
We got our family up a little early Tuesday to drop them off at friends' houses (a sincere 'thank you' by the way) and drove up to RMCC. After signing in, we were escorted to a little classroom. A nice little lady was there to welcome us. We waited a few minutes for an elderly couple to join our class and then we got started...just the 5 of us. The kind nurse told us chemo patients should keep a healthy diet, get some rest, drink lots of water, and get some exercise. Sounded like a regular health class so far.
Then things got interesting. She started saying things like 'chemo is hazardous waste', 'chemo patients need to flush twice while on chemo because of the potent nature of the chemicals and to avoid others coming in contact with it', 'chemo can cause some side effects or make you sick'. Then she followed that up with a few 'the medical staff wear special gloves to protect themselves', 'they also have to wear a mask and protective clothing', and 'there is a special waste basket for this protective gear that's sealed so the chemo chemicals can't get into the air'.
Wow! Hazardous waste, special protective clothing, AND a special waste basket. By now she had my attention. My eyes were big as I enquired, 'So what do the patients or visitors wear for the chemo sessions?' To which she replied nonchalantly, "Oh, you'll be fine." I thought to myself, "Fine...riiiiiiiiiiiiigght". I believe Shay's comment after class was 'it's all about job security.'
So at night, when you see that faint glow off in the distance...just know the SEAMONS are still with you. Shay now the glow of your body will finally match the glow of your heart. I don't need to worry about being scared of the dark any more because my loving wife just took on an extra duty...the family night-lite. (insert inspirational music here) Thanks for taking one for the team, Hon. You are the light of my life. You are my sunshine. And when you're all alone and troubled, just know that the rest of us are only 50 feet away giving you a hug in our minds. WE LOVE YOU!

As of April 2, 2012, this blog became the place for documenting our New Adventure called Breast Cancer. Basically it's all about our Cancer ParTay.
As of Oct 2013- our 18 month Survivor mark- the ParTay's pretty much over. Treatments are done, my hair is back and I am healthy & cancer-free!
As of today- I want you to know that the trick to living a happy, healthy and wonderful life in the future is to remember where we've been, what we've learned and how much we've been blessed! That's exactly what I hope you find here.
