I have had a small lump in my right breast for a couple of years now but it seems to have enlarged lately. So in preparation for our Physicals coming up, I figured I better get it checked out. You know- get it cleared before the physicals so we can pass with flying colors.
My home teacher, Brother Wright and Brett ended up giving me a blessing last night. It was a nice blessing but a bit of a blur. But I don't feel like I have anything to worry about.
I had an appointment last week with Dr. Card but she called in sick so they rescheduled me for this morning at 8:20am. Unfortunately, she called in sick again. I didn't want to put it off any longer so they fit me in with another doctor for about the same time. I saw Autumn instead. She was way nice. She did the usual doctor thing. Check me out, charge me, tell me what I already know and send me to someone else. LOL
Crazy enough, they had an opening an hour later at the Breast Clinic for an ultrasound. OkieDokie then! They were very nice. Two nurses did my ultrasound. They found a cluster of cysts along with a hard mass. Once they had all the pictures they needed, they took them to Dr. Goldberg to discuss them. After a little while, they came back in with the doctor. He looked at it a little more and then recommended that I have a biopsy done because of the hard mass.
It just happened that they were slow today, so they had me wait in a room while they set up. Holy Cow! What is happening here? I called Brett to let him know what they had decided to do.
After like 20 minutes, they came, got me, moved me to the surgery room and explained the procedure. She gave me a brief overview and explained the complications that can occur. Standard stuff, I guess. Then, she was explaining that the Lidocaine stings and burns and they can't do anything about it. What?? OK- don't freak out! I ended up asking- "Do people usually cry?" She said they've had their fair share of crying occur. Oh! That's comforting. LOL!
Then they started the procedure. To tell you the truth- it wasn't as bad as I had expected. Don't get me wrong- I do NOT like needles or getting things cut out of me by any means but the pain was manageable. It actually was pretty cool to watch the screen. He "sawed" off some of the cysts and "snipped off" some tissue from the hard mass. (At least that's what the machine sounded like) It was cool to see some of the cysts disappear right there on the screen. It didn't take that long and they were all done. They did have to apply pressure for 15 minutes or so to control the bleeding but the nurse was very friendly and made the time pass quickly.
After they got me all cleaned up and situated, they explained all the post surgery stuff. No heavy lifting, no housework, no raising my arm above my head, take it easy, ibuprofen and ice regularly. They'll call me on Wednesday with the biopsy results. Not a bad "have to" list for a stay-at-home Mom on most days. But I do have TONS of piles of things to clean up after the garage sale and furniture to move to "stage my house". Dang bodies- they definitely don't care what your time schedule looks like- do they?
I finally got to go home around 1:00. Wow! What a crazy day! Oh well- time to take it easy for a couple days!
I know this isn't the right mentality but if we end up not being able to go to Colombia because of my stinkin' boob- I am going to be so mad!!! Argggg! Guess we'll just wait and see.
